What do YOU do in the shower?

What do YOU do in the shower?

I thought this was pretty interesting.  What do we do in the shower? We think. That’s the word from a survey of adults conducted by Water Pik Inc.

•             64% of women think about their to-do lists in the shower, compared with 48% of men.

•             66% of men admit to showering with another adult for intimacy, compared with 55% of women who admit to having an intimate shower.

•             Men shower an average of only two minutes less than women (14 minutes for women vs. 12 minutes for men).

•             50% of moms say they use the shower as a time to escape, compared to only 28% of dads and 29% of women without children.

•             More than half (53%) of moms always feel rushed to get out of the shower to take care of their family, compared to 27% of dads.

What do you do or think about in the shower?  I have a friend who says he sings ‘O Canada’ 3 times in a row.  When he’s done signing, he’s done in the shower.  How ‘bout you?

On This Day, York became Toronto (tkaronto)

On this day (March 6th 1834) the city of York in Upper Canada was incorporated as Toronto.  This is cool, the nameToronto is likely derived from the Iroquois word tkaronto, meaning ‘place where trees stand in the water’.  Since then Toronto has had plenty of nicknames including

The Megacity

The City That Works

The Big Smoke

Toronto the Good

Hollywood North

The 416

Centre of the Universe

But my favourite (when this beautiful city was known as York, my favourite nicknames were Dirty Little York and Nasty Little York.

Which is your favourite nickname?

What’s APPening - Foursquare

Foursquare is all about making the most of where you are. This location-based social media app connects with the locations around you. Ever want to know what kind of specials that new sports store has around the corner? Maybe you want a recommendation on what to order at that Thai restaurant on the other side of town? Foursquare can definitely help out! You can even see where your friends are … if you want to!

Here’s how it works. When you install the app on your smart phone, it uses your device’s built-in GPS to display points of interest around you. This could be restaurants, parks, shops, landmarks and tons of other stuff. When you visit a location, you can “check in” which broadcasts your location to your friends who you have added or approved when using the app. You’ll see what tips or facts others have provided about the location, and you can leave yours for future Foursquare users. These tips could be anything from “try the nachos” to “ask for the secret cocktail, and tell them Q107 sent you!”

After you have checked into a few places, you start to earn points. And if you check into enough places, you’ll start to earn different badges. This is mostly just for fun; it gives a video game-like feel to your daily routine. If you check in at the same place enough times, you could become its mayor. Being a mayor at some places doesn’t mean much, but some places — like restaurants or stores — offer special deals for the Foursquare mayor. This brings me to my next point… the deals!

Deals are one of the coolest things about Foursquare! When you bring up your local map in the app, you’ll see various deals highlighted to be unlocked! If you visit the Q107 Rock N Roll Circus the season, you can bet that we’ll offer a cool deal exclusively for Foursquare users, so stay tuned!

All in all, I think Foursquare is worth getting for the social recommendations and the exclusive deals you can unlock. The only catch is that you need to be living in a populated area in order to get the most out of the system, as the app relies on its users. There are plenty of users checking in and leaving tips in Toronto, but small towns may not fare as well due to a limited amount of users. And if you ever travel, Foursquare can really help you get around. While the game angle may not be for everyone, the deals and tips are worth it. And if you’re uncomfortable with broadcasting your location to your friends, you can always use the “off-the-grid” mode.

Give it a try and let me know what you think!
